Member Discussion Items:

  1. Retiree Position on the CSPPA Board of Directors: Board members discussed the feasibility of adding a retiree to the Board of Directors to broaden representation of the member spectrum. It was decided that prior to adding a board position, a good starting point would be to encourage retiree attendance and participation as audience members.  The same was discussed with respect to newer hires (under 5 years).
  2. CSPPA Survey: The questionnaire was reviewed and suggested edits are to be incorporated. The survey will be open to both members and nonmembers; as such, a mechanism which permits nonmember guest access to the CSPPA member only portal will be explored. Data collection is anticipated to begin within a month.
  3. Golf Tournament Update: Officer Chris Mace is chairing the 2016 CSPPA Fallen Officers Memorial Golf Tournament. The event will be held on Monday, July 11th at the Country Club of Colorado.  Plans are well underway with respect to sponsorships and activities.
  4. Review of Meeting with Dan May: CSPPA Board President Mike Singels, Vice President John Havenar, Executive Director Sherryl Dillon, and Chief Pete Carey met with District Attorney Dan May, Assistant D.A. Kim Kitchen, and Chief Investigator Andy James to renew communications between the CSPPA and the D.A.’s office. The discussion included issues surrounding victim’s rights with respect to police officers, as well as factors which determine inclusion on the Brady list.   A representative from the D.A.s office will attend a future CSPPA board meeting to continue the discussion.
  5. Review of meeting with Risk Manager Victoria McColm: CSPPA Board President Mike Singels and Executive Director Sherryl Dillon met with City Risk Manager Victoria McColm to discuss workman’s compensation issues. The 5 “why” questions were explained (responses have no impact on work comp benefits) and after reviewing member concerns, we were offered an open door to speak with risk management staff regarding future difficulties with worker’s compensation.

Agenda for the Chief’s meeting on 5/16/16:

  • There were no CSPPA items to bring forward for the May meeting; as such, the board offered to cancel the May meeting which was subsequently agreed to by the Chiefs.
